Ferritic Nitrocarburizing (FNC) Salts

We are back!

5f99bbdfda0bb13813dfa28d_MHM03043-p-1080.jpegIn the mid 1950’s John H Shoemaker, founder of Kolene Corporation, introduced the first FNC salt bath technology in North America. Named Tufftride by Mr. Shoemaker, this was the first molten salt bath technology that showed a significant improvement of certain metallurgical properties in ferrous metals.

Today, Kolene continues this long standing tradition of supplying its molten salts to improve both the metallurgical properties and, in certain cases, the corrosion resistance of parts run through the FNC process.

As a supplier of both FNC equipment and chemicals, Kolene is here to offer its 82 year history of excellence to companies interested in this very versatile process.

Kolene has relaunched its salt bath nitriding chemical line of products with our Kolene® FNC-Base™, Kolene® FNC-Regen™, and Kolene® QS™ products.

Kolene Corporation is a global leader in molten salt bath technology. Our equipment and chemistries are used worldwide for cleaning, conditioning, and modifying metal surfaces. Our nitriding chemistry provides exceptional surface hardening and corrosion protection. Family owned and continuously operating since 1939.

Available FNC Salts

FNC-BASE

Kolene® FNC-Base™ — Proprietary blend of alkali cyanates used to meet SAE AMS-2753C standards for salt bath ferritic nitrocarburizing.

FNC-GEN

Kolene® FNC-Regen™ — A nitrogen-carbon polymer based on melamine used to restore the nitriding potential of the Kolene® FNC-Base™ bath.

FNC-QS

Kolene® QS™  — A molten salt bath quench chemistry used to control the cooling rate of freshly nitrided parts, avoiding the potential for distortion. The oxidizing quench also neutralizes any cyanide compounds formed during the nitriding process.
