Nitriding Systems

Salt Bath Nitriding Equipment

Kolene salt bath nitriding system

We have supplied process equipment for salt bath nitriding (ferritic nitrocarburizing) since the process was introduced to North America in the 1950s, and we have made numerous design improvements over the years.

Our current systems are complete process lines that perform salt bath nitriding from start to finish. Common elements include:

  • prewash stations to remove soils, machining lubricants, etc.
  • preheat ovens to thoroughly dry the workloads and help conserve the nitriding bath temperature
  • single or multiple nitriding salt bath furnaces to meet your production needs
  • integrated molten salt quench bath
  • cold and hot water tanks as required
  • oil dip tanks

Our nitriding equipment is fully hooded and ventilated. Handling systems range from simple manual hoists to fully automated, “recipe driven” systems, and we lay out the rails in straight-line, L, U, or O configurations, depending on your requirements.

We also keep a spare parts warehouse of critical replacement components such as sparging rings, burners, and agitators.

Salt, furnace, and quench specified together

We supply the chemistry as well as the line: Kolene FNC-Base® salt, FNC-Regen® regenerator, and Kolene QS® oxidizing quench salt, so we can specify bath chemistry, furnace capacity, and quench as one process.

For salt bath, batch, pit, and specialty heat treating furnaces, see Upton® heat treat equipment from Upton Industries, A Kolene Company.

Start-up, training, and bath control

Our technicians start up new lines, train operators, and run preventative maintenance inspections. Our lab analyzes cyanate, cyanide, and carbonate in bath samples so you can keep nitriding potential in range.

Planning a new line or upgrading an old one? Send us your part sizes, load weights, and hourly throughput, and we will lay out and quote a system.
